On Thursday, the Provincial Assembly of Sindh unanimously passed a resolution urging the federal government and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to assure that the new currency notes to be issued in the nation feature images of Mohenjo-Daro as a significant symbol of Pakistan’s historical and cultural legacy.

MQM’s Rashid Ali presented a resolution and focusing on the significance of Mohenjo Daro as a historical heritage of the country. The House then unanimously asked on the federal government not to destroy the image of historical site.

Sindh Parliamentary Affairs Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar welcomed the initiative, stating that the Mohenjo-Daro civilization is the world’s “oldest” ruins and must not be overlooked. He emphasized the importance of preserving the historic remains for future generations.

In his remarks regarding the resolution, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah thanked the initiator for emphasizing the significance of the matter.  He also referred to the MQM politician as a “son of soil.”

The world is creating art museums to highlight its history and legacy, he said, “while we are removing pictures,” and he suggested that the federal government maintain the image of the ancient Mohenjo-Daro ruins on the new currency notes as well.
