Ismail Haniyeh was a Palestinian politician who was chief political leader of Hamas, and has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007. He was the chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau. He was currently living in Qatar from 2023.

The Palestinian militant group Hamas announced earlier on Wednesday that its political bureau chief Ismail Haniyah was killed in an Israeli attack in his residence Tehran. Haniyeh was present in Tehran on Tuesday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas expressed its condolences on the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh.

“Hamas mourns to our great Palestinian people, to the Arab and Islamic nations, and to all the free people of the world, the martyr, the Mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement, who was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president,”.

Musa Abu Marzouq, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau gave a response of the attack and said that assassination of Commander Ismail Haniyeh is a cowardly act and will not go unanswered.

The assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh is under investigation and the results will be announced later today, as reported by Iranian media.
