Google is rolling out a new AI-powered feature for Android phones that locks users out and keeps hackers from accessing their data.

The new feature uses AI to detect theft related movement patterns, such as snatching of a device, quick getaway on vehicle. This feature automatically locks the phone when it detects that the phone has been snatched from the owner’s hand. ‘It uses data from your phone’s accelerometer and gyroscope and checks if common motions associated with theft are detected’.

This AI driven feature will be available in Android 15 and google has intentions to extend this service to all Android 10+ devices via Google Play Services.

Additional features include an upgraded factory reset process that makes difficult for thief to reset the stolen device and resale.
