The big tech companies Google and Microsoft each consumed more electricity in 2023 than 100 countries. Google and Microsoft are the world’s fourth and second-most valuable companies. The consumption rate was highest as data centers used to power cloud services as well as a new generation of artificial intelligence also expanded. Both of the companies used 24 TWh (terawatt-hours) of electricity during the year 2023. This amount is equivalent to the energy usage of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s GDP stands at $ 78.7 billion, while in 2023 Google generated $307 billion in revenue, while Microsoft generated $211 billion. Iceland, Ghana, and Tunisia each consume 19 TWh annually, while Jordan uses 20 TWh.  Libya and Slovakia use 25 TWh and 26 TWh, respectively. Google and Microsoft have commitments to adopt eco-friendly energy solutions by the end of this decade.
